As part of this project, we are offering feedback on any work that is sent to us. This could be mentoring a writer through a redrafting process or simply suggesting minor edits to help polish a piece. We want to challenge our writers to produce the best piece of poetry or prose that they can.
Mentoring is an opportunity for writers, beginner and professional, to work with a published author. We can offer support to simply help you get the words down, or if you're wanting to change form or genre, or are struggling with a redraft or need help selecting from multiple pieces. We'll also help you polish your piece ready for publication.
Mentoring is different from just getting editing suggestions on a piece of work, because it involves talking to your mentor over a period of time. They will read your writing and chat to you about how to develop it, or make suggestions for new approaches you might take. A mentor will get to know your work and help you push yourself as a writer. It doesn't matter what stage you are at – whether you're just starting out, or have been writing for years. We can give you time and support to develop your work.
Some pieces that are submitted to us will be by practiced writers who are used to editing their own work and might not need much feedback at all. If we suggest changes that you don't agree with, please feel free to tell us. If you are happy to receive some editorial feedback, rather than mentoring on your work, we will give comments or suggestions for tweaks and improvements. We want all the writing in this anthology to shine, so our feedback will aim to bring out the best in your work.
